Our Story
In 2022 Andrea and John Rankins, affectionately known as Suga Mama and Paw-Paw, drizzled a dream on their family. This dream rose faster than fresh baked bread. It was then, Fat Elbows Southern Cuisine and Catering was born. The Rankins family decided to venture into the food truck business as a way to bring their culinary passion to the streets of Baton Rouge. Opening their family-owned and operated food truck, "Fat Elbows," they proudly serve plates full to the brim with soul food, delighting their customers with flavors that evoke comfort and nostalgia. From navigating permits and licenses to crafting a diverse menu, they were determined to create a unique dining experience that would bring joy and satisfaction to their customers. The food truck not only allows them to share their love for cooking, but also connects them with their community, creating a harmonious blend of food, culture, and heartfelt hospitality.
